If you are buying a vehicle in Dubai for use in Algeria, RoRo shipping to Djen Djen Port is usually the simplest and most economical way to get it home. This guide explains how RoRo from Dubai to Algeria works, what you can ship, how often vessels sail and how to prepare your vehicle.
What is RoRo shipping?
RoRo stands for roll-on/roll-off. Instead of being lifted by crane or packed into a container, your vehicle is driven up a ramp onto a specialised car carrier in Dubai, secured on the vehicle deck, and driven off again at the destination port. With no lifting and no container stuffing, handling is kept to a minimum.
Why Djen Djen Port?
Djen Djen is a deep-water port in Jijel province on Algeria’s north-eastern coast. It is the arrival port for our RoRo service from Dubai, with good road connections to Jijel, Constantine, Sétif and the rest of eastern and central Algeria.
How often are sailings?
We offer regular RoRo sailings from Dubai to Djen Djen, usually monthly. Because space on each vessel is limited, we recommend contacting us as soon as you have purchased your vehicle so we can reserve space on the next available sailing and plan collection in Dubai.
What can you ship by RoRo to Algeria?
Any vehicle that can be driven onto the vessel under its own power can travel by RoRo. This includes:
- Cars and sedans such as the MG5, Suzuki Swift, Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Accent
- Pickups including the Toyota Hilux, Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200
- SUVs and 4x4s such as the Toyota Land Cruiser, Prado and Nissan Patrol

- Heavy machinery such as excavators, loaders, cranes and tractors

Documents you will typically need

Before buying, check that the vehicle meets Algeria’s current import conditions for age, fuel type and payment method. See our summary of Algerian vehicle import regulations.
RoRo or container?
RoRo is ideal for running vehicles and is usually the most cost-effective choice. If you want enclosed protection for a single car, consider a shared container to Alger. For several vehicles, non-runners or vehicles shipped with spare parts, an FCL container to any Algerian port is the better option. Compare all options on our RoRo shipping page.
